In 2012 the Riviera International Centre celebrated its 25th year since opening its doors to the public in May 1987. At the same time two long standing employees at the Riviera Centre; Colin Pemberton and Nicky Harding, also celebrated mile stone anniversaries both reaching 25 years of employment, which was celebrated with a special Long Service Award at a recent Staff Party.

Colin Pemberton, Lifestyle Health & Fitness Suite Manager and Nicky Harding, Conference Torquay Manager, have seen many changes over the years including 8 different General Managers, rebranding of the Centre’s name as well as various internal layout changes.

“I began my career at the Riviera Centre as a Lifeguard , said Colin Pemberton. “After 6 years of being a Lifeguard I then moved over to Lifestyle Heath & Fitness Suite were I was appointed as Supervisor and then Manager. I now oversee all of our fitness facilities.

He continued: “I am passionate about ensuring that we stay at the forefront of fitness trends and deliver a service that not only meets our customer’s expectations, but one that my team and I can be proud of. We now have over 1,100 members and I feel privileged to have helped Lifestyle grow and continuously evolve over the years. My particular highlights include being able to witness many of our members achieve spectacular fitness goals, which has been truly inspirational.”

Nicky Harding said: “25 years ago I joined the Riviera Centre as Front of House Manager and since then I have gained extensive experience in various departments including Leisure, Sales & Events. I now manage the operation of Torquay’s destination marketing bureau as well as the Sales & Marketing Department. Over the years I have brought many prestigious conferences to Torquay including the National Union of Teachers, the British Medical Association and the National Young Farmers Federation.

She continued: “What I love about my job is the variety and the people. Every day is different presenting new challenges and new opportunities. With a variety of prestigious events booked in our diary, including the Miss England 2013 Contest in June, I’m very much looking forward to what the future will bring.”

General Manager, Simon Jolly, stated “Senior Management have worked very hard over the years to cultivate a positive working environment. I believe this is reflected by the number of long serving staff we have retained, including another employee Yvonne Blackhurst, Functions Assistant, who will also be celebrating 25 years of employment in 2013.”
