The Riviera International Conference Centre has enabled students on a Foundation Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management at South Devon College to take their practical experience to another level. The nine students will take the lead on the organisation of The RICC Showcase Dinner on Friday 27th November.
The RICC Showcase Dinner is set to become the event of the year offering decision makers of local medium to large Businesses the chance to enjoy an arrival drink, delicious 3-course dinner with wine or beer, plus entertainment all completely free of charge.
“We are delighted to offer the students the opportunity to manage this event,” says Barry Cole Managing Director of the Riviera Centre, “The practical work experience is invaluable and this will provide them with a good foundation of knowledge to build upon in the future.”
This professionally orientated course awarded by the University of Plymouth has been designed to develop students’ business and management capabilities and has a real emphasis on the development of students’ practical capabilities. Modules studied include: marketing; finance and event and conference planning to name but a few and so participating in the organisation of this event will enable the students to pull all their newly acquired knowledge together and put it to the test.
The students will be heading up all areas of organising the event from the initial brainstorming, compiling an invitee list, deciding upon a menu, through to confirming the entertainment and the running order for the evening.
“I am very pleased with how the students have responded to this task,” says Rachel Kitt, the students Lecturer, “they have a lot of enthusiasm and are already working on some really innovative ideas.”
