Red Arrows visit Torbay

26.08.09

Despite the poor weather conditions leading up to the display, the Red Arrows were given the green light and continued with their traditional feature in Torbay’s Royal Regatta.

The forecasted poor weather conditions were a result of receiving the tail end of Hurricane Ben as it moved across the Atlantic.  Torbay had been hampered by wind and rain most of the day, however luckily, the clouds lifted and the rain halted around 5.30pm giving on-lookers the opportunity to enjoy yet another awe inspiring display.

Each year the Red Arrows are a big drawing card to attract people to the Bay and this year was no exception.   This is one of the reasons why the decision to cancel the Red Arrows is only ever made due to cloud base that is lower than 500ft which would prevent visibility rather than simply just wind or rain.

Fortunately for the Bay Brasserie restaurant, located on the seaward side of the Riviera International Centre, the display went ahead as planned and allowed their VIP guests to enjoy spectacular views of the flypast from their terrace, followed by a tasty buffet.
