Swimming 4Giving……. A group of proud swimmers at Torquay’s Riviera International Centre congratulate each other after successfully completing a swimming challenge to raise money for breast cancer research.
Throughout June, Jacquie Lovett, a swimming instructor at the Riviera Centre’s Waves indoor pool not only taught a number of adults how to swim but also helped them go one better by taking part in a very special sponsored promotion to raise money for breast cancer.
The national event – Swimming4Giving – attracted support from thousands of women ( and gentlemen) throughout the country who were invited to accept one of three challenges – 80 widths, 160 widths or 240 widths and Jacquie’s star pupils all achieved their chosen goals.
Jacquie explained: “Breast cancer is a very worthwhile cause and I am delighted all my group achieved their targets. Every time they came for a swim, they simply added up the lengths they completed to meet their personal challenges.
“It was particularly rewarding because virtually the whole group had only just learnt or are still learning to swim.”
Having added up their widths, those that took part have been counting up their sponsored cash and will be presenting a cheque for £370 to the breast cancer campaign.
