The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) running at Waves Leisure Pool in March, May and November 2012 will qualify students to work in any swimming pool in the UK upon completion.

  • The NPLQ is split into two modules: RLSS Unit 1 will provide; The principles of Lifesaving and Swimming Pool Supervision and Unit 2;  The Application of Supervision and Rescue in a Swimming Pool.
    The qualification is given based on the results of a theory and practical examination that will take place on the final day of the course.
  • The qualification lasts for 2 years from the date of the examination and can be renewed after 2 years as long as sufficient training hours have been completed.
  • Candidates must be aged 16 or over, able to attend all sessions including the final examination and able to swim at least 200m.
  • The cost is £200 which includes all tuition and assessment fees, lifeguard log book, tea and coffee.

May: 11th, 12th, 13th / 18th, 19th, 20th **NOW FULL**
November: 16th, 17th, 18th / 23rd, 24th, 25th

Pre Requisites

Candidates must be able to meet the following basic fitness criteria:

  • Aged 16+
  • Jump/swim into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front on back
  • In deep water, tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/step and where the pool design permits
