Weight Loss
The best way to lose weight is to do so gradually.
This is the sensible way to lose any surplus body fat and keep it off. Weight loss due to very low calorie diets is normally in the form of lean tissue (muscle) and water.
Try to aim for a calorie deficit of 250-500 kcals per day to lose ½ - 1 pound of fat per week. The best way to achieve this deficit is a combination of exercise and a reduction of food intake.
Any physical activity will promote more lean tissue. The more lean tissue you have, the more calories you will burn when resting.
Top tips for sensible weight loss:
- Eat lower fat foods, but beware of low fat foods that are loaded with sugar.
- Eat breakfast, as a good healthy breakfast will give your metabolism a boost.
- Chew your food – give time for your body to know that it has been fed! Your stomach will be full before your brain tells you that it is.
- Drink water- sometimes your body is thirsty rather than hungry.
- Try to avoid eating before going to bed.
- Don’t go food shopping when you are hungry.
- If you crave something sweet, try some fruit or fruit juice (unsweetened).
